I've been hitting up this bougie bodega since '07. Whether it's to grab a seat at their sushi bar or pick up some ginger tea. I don't mind overpaying a little for items that I can't get outside of Brooklyn. The staff is pleasant and helpful.

Since 2002, this has been my favorite grocery store in the area! There's A LOT of healthy, reasonably priced food here. There's FRESH fruits and vegetables, huge slabs of fin fish, nuts, all sorts of FRESH Kimchi, various cans of hearts of palm, and Kosher vegetarian food. Today, I bought a WONDERFULLY-priced Napa cabbage and kicked myself while walking out the door for not grabbing some of the plump, red strawberries. There are MANY of vegetarian options! There is also a sushi bar for us fish-eaters. Some of the pre-made rolls of sushi are FAT (more Korean style than Japanese). I would have bought sushi today if they had a roll ready with brown rice. There was a lady behind the sushi counter, I could of asked about the brown rice sushi situation, but I was in a hurry. It's not exactly H Mart or M2M, but there's A LOT of kimchi and pickled vegetables here. If you have a kimchi craving, you can KILL it here. Other ready to eat options include fresh Guacamole and Pica de Gallo. If you prefer your food canned, they have a fair assortment of beans and hearts of palms. While most of the fresh food seems well-priced, the canned foods seem a bit more expensive than -- say -- Associated Market on 5th Avenue near Union Street. I bought two canned items today (artichokes and garbanzos) that don't expire until 2023. If you prefer your food frozen and less healthy, you can get your stuffed (with God knows what), frozen clams here. There's ice cream too! And you don't need to join a Vitamin Shoppe or GNC *club* to buy protein bars here. If you don't like your candy bars to have protein, there's LOTS of dark chocolate, which should contain a decent amount of Iron (check the labels)! They have eggs and cheese too. I have ZERO idea about their beverages, toiletries, or home cleaning products situation. I don't even know if they sell Tampax or booze. I just come here for FRESH food, mostly the cold, pre-made, vegetable-based food. Unlike other health food stores, where I have had to return food because it was not refrigerated properly or contained live worms (Back to the Land, which I prefer to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's minus the worms in my dried pineapple), I have NEVER had to return any food to this *health* food store. If you get off the train at 7th Avenue in Park Slope and want some healthy food to eat AT HOME, walk up hill on Flatbush Avenue and you will find it.

$5 credit card minimum Fuji apple the size of my face for .99/lb. The BEST deal I've seen since I moved to brooklyn. Ben & Jerry's icecream selection is super $$$ at 5.99, even though the variety is extensive. 12/26: They have the veggies to make pho': beansprout, mint, cilantro, jalapeno, lime.

This place looks like most other Korean groceries in nice neighborhoods in Brooklyn, but it's actually special. The quality of the food and produce is great all around, including the selection of bread from some of the best bakeries in town (Amy's, Sullivan St., etc.). But the big surprise is the fish counter. It's gotten excessively hard to find good fish in NYC (I've downgraded Wild Edibles from 5 to 2 stars). The only places I've found that are consistently good are the Lobster Place at Chelsea Market, a handful of the farmers' market stands, and this place. Seriously, the fish is good. It looks like a shop-inside-a-shop situation, with the Japanese sushi guys running the fish market. The selection is rarely huge. But everything I've had has been great.

What I didn't expect to find here: -A supermini, two-seat sushi bar where you can sit down and eat, which seems to be so uncomfortable and blockheaded of an arrangement that it is thereby free of any illusion or pretension and I kind of love it -Full seafood counter (--almost full) -Decent amount of bulk items -Amy's bread What I did expect to find here: -High prices. Deal with it. You're paying for convenience and for your ever-more-complicated set of dietary bylaws. Also note: They have kimchi. And that soup greens mix (although theirs always seems to be on the verge of rotting).

I really like this market despite the fact that it is more expensive than Key Foods or other markets around. They are organized, have a lot of fresh, organic produce, and the sushi there is very decent. The seafood is very fresh and I often pick up scallops, shrimp, or fish to make for dinner. They are always well stocked and are open 24 hours including on holidays. On Thanksgiving, I needed fresh vanilla pods and they even had those! Definitely worth the extra cash for quality produce!
